Do Endodontists Treat Children?

Do Endodontists Treat Children?

Yes. We treat patients of all ages at Mount Pleasant Endodontics. Children can suffer from infected teeth and dental trauma just like adults. We specialize in the treatments and procedures needed to restore and protect your child’s smile.

Pediatric Endodontics is a subset of endodontics that treats infections and conditions affecting the interior of the tooth with treatments like root canal therapy. “Baby root canals,” or, “pulpotomies,” is a pediatric therapy that helps restore infected baby teeth. This procedure is fast and less-invasive than adult root canal therapy.

At Mount Pleasant Endodontics, we provide care in a child-friendly environment. Our experienced pediatric endodontics team will do their best to make sure your child stays safe and comfortable while they receive the care that they need.

When Should I Take My Child to an Endodontist?

  • If they have a toothache

Painful and prolonged tooth pain can indicate a tooth infection that should be treated by an endodontist using baby root canal therapy.

  • If their tooth is sensitive

If eating hot or cold foods or consuming sugary drinks or candy causes discomfort in your child’s tooth, then they may have a deep cavity or infected tooth. It is best to schedule an appointment with an endodontist to address this issue.

  • After an oral injury

If your child plays contact sports or gets injured in a fall and they crack a tooth, an endodontist can help save that tooth. They specialize in restoring and treating damaged teeth and have more experience than a regular dentist in doing so.

  • After a referral from your pediatric dentist

Pediatric dentists sometimes refer patients to endodontists when they require complex procedures such as root canals and other tooth-saving procedures. Contact Mount Pleasant Endodontics to schedule your appointment.
